Substance Abuse Evaluation

The clinical assessment provides a systematic review of the individual’s history, background and current situation to determine whether they are experiencing problems with alcohol or drug use. In collaboration with the client and/or their family members or friends, information is gathered from medical records, and other sources to assess one’s readiness for change.

You’ve got questions. We’ve got answers.

What causes drug addiction?

  1. Family history of addiction
  2. Mental health disorder.
  3. Peer pressure.
  4. Lack of family involvement.
  5. Early use.
  6. Taking a highly addictive drug.

Do addicts know they are hurting you?

Addicts can see your struggles and they know when they are the cause. They don't want to hurt you. To cope, some addicts find solace in distancing themselves to avoid hurting anyone else.

How do addicts behave in relationships?

Typical addict behavior in relationships involves neglecting all of their relationships and only spending time with the people who share their addiction. Their sleeping and eating habits will change dramatically and they will often blame it on something else.

How does it feel to love an addict?

Loving an addict often feels hopeless. If you have ever loved someone in active addiction, you may feel used and abused. Compassion may not seem like a natural response, and there are times when your own survival and health must take priority over the needs of your loved one.

What is the first rule of recovery?

Change Your Life
The most important rule of recovery is that a person does not achieve recovery by just not using. Recovery involves creating a new life in which it is easier to not use.
